Message from the Pack Akelas
We are a family oriented
pack. All family members are welcomed and encouraged to
participate in all activities and events. We are
100% volunteer. We appreciate
everyone offering to step-up to help with
all events and coordination. This is for your
children too - please help!!
Do you own, know someone, or
work for a business that will sponsor, make donations or
support Pack 478? Please let us know - the Pack
and the boys
lives will be better for it!!
Please don't hesitate to ask
what you can do to help - we will find something
meaningful and fun for you to do!
Character Development
Since its origin, the Scouting program has been an
educational experience concerned with values. In 1910,
the first activities for Scouts were designed to build
character, physical fitness, practical skills, and service.
These elements were part of the original Cub Scout program
and continue to be part of Cub Scouting today.
Character can be defined as the collection of core
values possessed by an individual that leads to moral
commitment and action. Core values are the basis of
good character development. In helping boys develop
character, Cub Scouting promotes the following 12 core
values.
Cub Scouting's 12 Core Values
- Citizenship
- Compassion
- Cooperation
- Courage
- Faith
- Health and fitness
- Honesty
- Perseverance
- Positive attitude
- Resourcefulness
- Respect
- Responsibility
Character is "values in action."
The goals for our pack are to:
- Keep it simple and make it fun
- Involve all parents equally
- Develop and maintain an interest for continuing
in Scouting
Accordingly, in meetings we work on advancing in Cub
rank and preparing for outings which are the rewards
for those efforts.
Activities
Cub Scouting means "doing." Everything in
Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things.
Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scoutingcitizenship
training, character development, and personal fitness.
Many of the activities happen right in the den and
pack. The most important are the weekly den meetings
and the monthly pack meetings.
